About us

"Coaching is a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. To be a successful coach requires a knowledge and understanding of process as well as the variety of styles, skills and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which coaching takes place." - Eric Parsloe

In many definitions of coaching, I like this one the best, for now.  Parsloe wrote a lot about coaching and mentoring from a business and athletic perspective, and he had a great personal story to tell as well.  In his statement "appropriate to the context", I believe there is a good deal to interpret there. To give one what is "appropriate to the context", one first has to know what that is, and, second, how to convey that. In conveying that to students, often adolescents, a coach needs to be keen in how to deliver that 'style, skill or technique' in a manner in which it will be accepted; anyone who has worked with adolescents knows: delivery does not guarantee reception. In addition, instruction that was received one day, may require a different method the next. When I founded this company, I didn't want to be defined as just another tutoring company, or another education or college consultancy. I'm a coach, and I hire coaches. I hire strong educators who are seasoned and know their content, but that has to be secondary to being a good coach. I have a strong belief that the foundation of what we do is steeped in coaching and the relational aspects of education. We want to come alongside students and be their allies and partners in guiding them on their educational path ahead.

Things students don't care about: a bunch of degrees from a few different schools, various teaching licenses in a bunch of things.

Things students do care about: one degree came from Australia complete with camping in the Outback amidst large spiders, as well as lots of college credits from riding a boat around the world.

Things students don't care about: imparting EF coaching, time management, and organizational skills through house-parenting hundreds of teenagers over 15 years

Things students do care about:  I can tell stories about driving a dune buggy in the Sahara desert, running the with bulls in Pamplona, conquering a few marathons and skydiving.

Things students don't care about: teaching explicit writing steps through stepped grammar and structured sentences and paragraphs

Things students do care about: My dog is pretty cool; he runs the trails with me when I run or ride.  My numerous children are also pretty cool. They play lots of soccer, lacrosse, and ski. They cause me trouble and are sweet most days.
